Tioman
Island Malaysia (a.k.a Pulau Tioman Malaysia) is an island tuck away in the
east coast of Peninsular Malaysia in the state of Pahang. It takes about 4
hours to reach Mersing Ferry Terminal If you travel from Singapore and only 2
hours if you come directly from Kuala Lumpur.
Tioman
Island is made up of mainly eight villages, starting with Kampung Tekek (the
highest populated village), Kampung Juara, Kampung Mukut, Kampung Nipah,
Kampung Genting, Kampung Paya, Kampung Air Batang and Kampung Salang.
What to Eat?
Being
one of the best hidden gems in Malaysia, frequent travellers always opt for
fresh seafood on the island as compared to other available cuisines like Thai,
Western and Chinese. From Mersing Ferry Terminal to Tioman Island itself, there
are plenty of local food to choose from. Non-Muslim travellers can go for cheap
beers, while enjoying the view of beautiful sandy beach.
Stay Connected
Mobile phone coverage is mostly available on the island but
may be limited due to geographical conditions. Prepaid SIM cards from service
providers like DiGi, Maxis and Celcom can be easily purchased from shops on the
island. Internet access on the island is usually charged based on traveller’s
usage as wifi connection is limited.
Tips: If you own a smartphone, consider buying a prepaid SIM
card with 3G data plan to stay connected on the island. Signal receptions may
be poor at times but this is made convenient for you to stay connected with
your companions!
